Ian Whates is a writer of speculative fiction, an editor of other people's speculative fiction and a publisher of same. He lives in an idyllic Cambridgeshire village, with his long-suffering partner, Helen, a manic cocker spaniel called Honey, and Calvin -- an adopted tail-less black cat.
In 2006, Ian stumbled into publishing by accident. He established NewCon Press specifically to publish a fund-raising anthology, learning so much in the process that it seemed a shame not to continue with the venture and put this new found knowledge to good use. So he did.
He is Vice Chairman (a position sadly lacking in sordid implication, despite the title) of the Northampton SF Writers Group, Development Director of the British Science Fiction Association and has recently taken over as editor of the BSFA's Matrix magazine.
